We often participate in tenders related to cycling because we believe that every company, whether large or small, should be involved in projects that reflect its values and goals. That’s why we applied for a tender to install a self-service bike station in the “TUMI: Path to School” project.
In May 2019, the TUMI Global Mobility Challenge 2019 took place in Leipzig, where the jury selected 10 cities that most urgently needed to begin transforming mobility. Among them was the Ukrainian city of Zhytomyr, which received a grant for implementing sustainable mobility projects.
We remind you that sustainable mobility means safe and efficient movement from point A to point B for all people, using any mode of transport, without harm to themselves, others, or the environment. Zhytomyr has focused its efforts on the most vulnerable road users — children.
The lack of mobility options and the high level of road traffic accidents create a dangerous urban environment for schoolchildren. Providing adequate pedestrian and cycling infrastructure around school facilities is crucial for early mindset change. “TUMI: Path to School” is a project aimed at developing infrastructure and potential to eliminate modal segregation in state schools in Zhytomyr, shifting from motorized to eco-friendly modes of transport.
The pilot project focuses on implementing infrastructure solutions: the construction (reconstruction) of sidewalks near schools and the installation of safe pedestrian crossings. In addition, bike parking, bike racks will be installed, and rules and guidelines for cycling to school will be developed.
At the end of May this year, the first self-service bike station in Zhytomyr was installed on the premises of one of the four schools participating in the project. Such bike repair stations have long been used worldwide and are designed to assist cyclists who need an unscheduled repair of their bike. Typically, these structures are installed in places with high cyclist traffic or near the busiest cycling routes.
The station is made of durable metal, has a vandal-resistant design, includes a set of essential tools, and a pump with a universal valve that allows inflation of wheels with any type of valve.
The Veliki FixPoint bike repair station can be installed anywhere: near educational institutions, private and public enterprises, along bike routes, etc. The station can be individually painted in any color and provides space for the company logo or advertising.
