Franchising or how to open a bike rental in Ukraine?

There is no guarantee that you will succeed in this. It is easier and safer for a novice businessman to buy a franchise. A franchise is considered more reliable worldwide than the business of ordinary small businesses. The business is already well established and has been comprehensively tested in practice for some time, has won its niche in a certain market segment, and has proven itself on the positive side. By purchasing a franchise, a start-up businessman receives the right to run his own business under the seller’s trademark, which leads to the instant acquisition of a reputation among consumers of another outlet in the network. BY AGREEMENT

Startup costs for a rental point, including the entrance fee: from $2,000 to $15,000 (depending on the number of required bicycles, rent for premises).
Royalties: from 5% to 10% of turnover, but no less than 450 UAH, paid from March to October (sometimes November), depending on types of activities.
Advertising fee: 1,000 UAH initially and 450 UAH monthly, paid from March to October (sometimes November), depending on types of activities.

  • do not search for suppliers who can offer you low prices. We already work with trusted suppliers, and our bulk purchases allow us to buy bicycles and accessories at very low prices. In addition, we manufacture our own branded bicycles under the Veliki TM, specifically designed for rental use, meaning they will last longer.

Bicycle procurement for rental: Since 2014, we have been manufacturing rental bicycles under the Veliki TM. These bicycles meet all operational requirements for rentals. We have selected the most popular sizes and attractive colors, and, of course, bicycles for our franchisees will be sold at a 30% discount.

Staff training: As our network expanded, we encountered staffing challenges. The number of rental locations increased, as did the number of bicycles in our fleet. Managing and servicing rental points became increasingly complex, and the labor market lacked skilled personnel suited to our needs. In 2014, we established our own mechanic training courses – Ukraine’s first bicycle mechanic school, where our partners can study at discounted rates. Additionally, at franchisee meetings, we periodically conduct masterclasses on rental point operations.

Organizational Requirements

  • Number of staff at the location: 1-2 people.
  • Requirements for the premises: proximity to park zones with good transport links.
  • Requirements for the location: presence of parks, park zones, bike lanes, and areas suitable for cycling.

After signing the contract, within 1 month, the franchisee will receive 1 set of branded T-shirts and caps (1 black, 1 white – work and formal wear).

Training is conducted through an internship at the franchise seller’s location for 1-3 days.

For already existing bike rentals, workshops, and stores, discounts from -5% to -25% are available for joining the network.
